Personality:

Chris is loyal to a fault, which can often times make him gullible. He can seem airheaded and conceited at times, but actually suffers from self esteem issues as a result of his father's abusive ways and many failed relationships. Chris may seem tough on the surface,  but he's actually sensitive and has a deep yearning to belong.

Before the Outbreak...


Christopher Smith was born in 1982 to Auggie Smith, a powerful and cunning small town racist whose views deeply scarred his son. His father forced him through training to become a killer, even going so far as to force his young son to kill a man by stabbing him to death.

He grew up alongside his older brother Keith Smith, the two sharing a deep love for music. At one point, his brother told him about the fake concept of 'butt babies', which Christopher believed he was until the age of 14. During his high school years, his classmates called him 'Chimp arms'.

One day during his childhood, Chris and his brother were listening to rock and roll music until they were warned by his father's classmates that it was time to fight. Smith and his brother went to the 'battlefield', which was nothing more than a dug out pit, while their father bet. Finally, the coach warned that there were no restrictions. When the fight started with his father's orders, Auggie told Chris that he punched like a girl, motivating him to land a harder punch to Keith's head which knocked him to the ground, accidentally killing him.

Tragically, Chris and the crowd watched as Keith did not get up, instead thrashing and foaming from his mouth. Immediately Auggie started screaming insults at Chris, blaming him for the death of his brother. Chris was deeply traumatized by the accident, and his father's animosity towards him grew.

During his adulthood, Chris became 'Peacemaker', a mentally unstable pacifist diplomat who grew so committed to peace, that he eventually started enforcing it by killing anyone that stood in the way of achieving it. He donned a ridiculously bright costume, an oddly shaped chrome helmet with a dove engraved in it, and a moniker of Peacemaker to start his quest for peace by any means necessary.

During his career, Chris adopted an American bald eagle which he affectionately named Eagly, who became one if his best companions. He considered the animal his best friend. At some point, Peacemaker befriended Gut Chase, and met his younger brother Adrian Chase, also known as Vigilante, with whom he became friends with. Early on, Chris visited The Starlight Lounge where he had sex with a woman by the name of Becky Coolidge, which resulted in a daughter that he remains unaware of.

Peacemaker first appeared on the scene by apprehending Kite-Man, who was attempting to steal the Blackheart ruby. During his superhero career, he also met Doll Man, Matter-Eater Lad, The Flash and Wonder Woman. He also heard of Aquaman, Bat Man and Superman.

Peacemaker was captured by ARGUS and detained in Belle Reve for all his murder crimes during his time as a vigilante, being sentenced to 30 years in Prison.

Then the apocalypse happened...


Soon after the outbreak, the staff of Belle Reve fled, only releasing a handful of the less violent inmates. The rest were left to starve to death. Chris was deemed too dangerous to be one of the fortunate ones to be freed. His luck would change when Ananda Waller sent one of her agents, Emilia Harcourt to evaluate the situation at the prison and report back with information of any survivors.

Even though Harcourt was instructed not to free any of the prisoners, Chris managed to talk his way into freedom and proved a valuable asset when the prison became overran with the undead and the two had to fight their way out before the agent could get an account of all the former Task Force X survivors.

Knowing that she had gone against Waller's orders, Harcourt decided to keep a low profile, and allowed Chris to keep close despite having no desire to give into the man's advances. Months of being isolated with Peacemaker soon softened her resolve and the two had an intimate relationship, but unfortunately for Chris, that would end in heartbreak.

Chris woke one morning to a note from Harcourt, telling him that 'playtime is over'. A love interest had never been part of her plans, even though she had developed feelings for him. The woman decided that facing this world alone was less dangerous than risking falling in love. Chris on the other hand had fallen deeply in love with her, so the rejection crushed him. He spent years braving the world on his own, trying to find Emilia, and his best friends Adrian and Eagly. As time ticked on, he lost all hope of ever seeing them again.

The years past, and Chris moved from community to community, being forced to move time after time as each settlement eventually succumbed to the harshness of the end of times. His own luck seemed to run out when he was captured by a group of cannibals that held him captive. Harcourt had stumbled upon the settlement, but instead of freeing him again, reported back to Amanda Waller, who she had returned working for many years ago.


Waller sent in some troops to slaughter the group of cannibals and free Smith, instructing them to bring him back to base. She knew of the man's reputation and had an important task for Smith. Harcourt would not make her presence known when Chris was taken back to the compound.


Once Chris had recovered, Waller filled his head with lies, informing him that Rick Flag was a rogue member of ARGUS who was currently using the survivors of Task Force X to work against what they were doing in order to save the world. Waller also informed him that the members were being used against their will, and preventing them from assisting her.

Chris was sent to the base undercover, having been 'recruited' by Bloodsport during one of the groups efforts to save another community from the Screamers. Chris was brought in while Flag was nursing near fatal wounds back at Oceanside with Harley Quinn and Digger Harkness. During that week, he got to know many of the members of the base, and Waller's allegations were not quite adding up. The members did not seem like brain washed prisoners at all. Still, he had been given orders from someone who had worked for the government, so when the opportunity presented itself, he attempted to kill Rick Flag. Fortunately his efforts were unsuccessful and after spending some time inside the base' prison, he was given a chance to redeem himself and soon became a member of Flag's growing community.
