Name: Corey Black
Alias: Thorn
Age: 33
Family: None
Appearance:
Dark colored hair. Tall, around 6'1" with a toned physique. He is from native American decent with dark walnut brown eyes that transform into a pitch black coloration when threatened or triggered. His body is covered with tattoos, even adorning ink on parts of his face. He has a set of fangs that evolved from experimentation capable of delivering deadly venom to anyone unfortunate enough to be bitten by him. The rest of his teeth are sharp, designed for ripping and shredding flesh.
Personality:
Thorn is NOT a 'social butterfly'. In fact, most would say he is very unapproachable. His life experiences have hardened him, making him defensive and violent. He does not play well with others. Due to events that happened during his early life, he suffers from PTSD and experiences bouts of unchanneled rage. He keeps people at a distance, not going out of his way to make friends or engage in meaningful relationships, though he does enjoy temporary 'bedroom fun' with women. He has no desire to feel anything for anyone and has yet to meet anyone that could change his mind. Headstrong, overly confident which often times makes him arrogant and cocky.
History:
Corey was only fifteen years old when the outbreak happened. Due to his involvement with the Purple Dragons and dealing drugs at such a young age, he had already lost touch with his parents. Upon realizing that the world was in the early stages of the apocalypse, he desperately tried to find his parents, but to no avail.
Due to his experiences on the streets and with gangs and the wrong crowds, the teen was a natural survivor in this new, less forgiving world where the dead ruled. He managed to keep himself safe and was well versed in the art of dispatching reanimated corpses. Unfortunately the undead wasn't the only threats that the living needed to survive against. The CDC turned corrupt during their quest to find a cure. The government operated facility offered safety, food and shelter to anyone unfortunate to believe their lies. ...
Initially Corey stayed clear of the place, but when food became scarcer, hunger and fatigue led him into the then welcoming gates of the compound. It was soon discovered that the facility's intentions were anything but good. He was imprisoned along with anyone else unfortunate enough to accept the government's offer. The months that followed would be nothing short of hell on earth as he endured painful experimentation and intentional poisonings. In a desperate attempt to find a cure, he was injected with small amounts of the virus in addition to antidotes that had been concocted during months prior to his capture....
Humans were not the only ones to fall victim to the CDC. Metas and mutants would also be obtained and undergo the same cruel treatment. Some survived, but most would perish under the cruelty of the scientists. In order to test to establish if the months of injecting antidotes had yielded results, 'experiments' were often subjected to being placed in a cell full of the undead. Only Corey survived, but the wounds he sustained would take weeks to heal. It wasn't the virus, but massive bloodless that nearly killed him. Not wanting to lose their biggest key to a cure, he was placed in a medically induced coma while he healed. During this time, the CDC was raided by Flag and the remaining members of Task Force X who had been sent by Amanda Waller. What had originally been a quest to retrieve an antidote turned into a rescue mission of the prisoners. Deadshot saw the teen strapped to an experiment table, but due to the bite marks that still adorned his body, he was considered a 'lost cause' and was left behind. Corey could hear the conversation happening around him, but was unable to speak up in order to convince Deadshot otherwise.
The teen was trapped for weeks before being discovered by a group of rogues that called themselves 'The Reapers'. They freed the boy and took him in, figuring that his ability to survive the bites of the infected would benefit them. He did in fact become useful and he was often quested for more dangerous assignments. Corey was compliant at first, but once it became obvious that they were only using him, he became less willing to do their dirty work, earning him the nickname 'Thorn' from Jay, because the teen had become a 'Thorn in his side'. A nickname that stuck and became the only name that he acknowledges. Thorn's rebellious behavior led Jay to offering him up in trade to Bishop for a few women that the agent had imprisoned. The leader of The Reapers knew that Bishop would want the opportunity to experiment on someone that could potentially be the cure.
More cruel and painful experiments would continue for years, breaking down what little humanity that Thorn had maintained. He became even more hostile and violent to the point of becoming feral. The man was at his breaking point when one of the scientists released him, along with a few other experiments, one of which his blood helped create.....
Due to the cruelty he endured at the hands of the CDC and Bishop's laboratory, he avoids joining settlements and keeps to himself, never staying in any location for very long. When scavenging turns up little means for survival, he will sneak into settlements in order to steal whatever is needed to survive.
