BEFORE THE END...

Former G.I. Rick Flag Jr. fought a war no soldier could prepare for, as field commander of the notorious Suicide Squad.

The son of renowned World War II hero Rick Flag, Rick Flag Jr. is just as much the courageous soldier and fierce patriot. Trained in just about every aspect of military combat, Flag was originally known for his talent as a fighter pilot.

Recruited by Amanda Waller, Flag was appointed leader of Task Force X, better known as the Suicide Squad. The Squad is composed of mostly Super-Villains, who carry out extremely dangerous missions for the United States government in exchange for reduced sentences for their crimes. Among the morally murky members of the Squad, Rick Flag is an anomaly—a tried and true hero with a genuine moral compass alone in a den of snakes. Nevertheless, Flag’s loyalty to his teammates is never in question.

ORIGIN

Born to a renowned hero from the Second World War, Rick Flag Jr. suffered many tragedies early on in life. His father sacrificed himself to save the inhabitants of an entire city, and his mother died when he was just a child, pushing him out of the way of an oncoming car. Flag ended up adopted by his father’s closest friend and confidante, Jeb Stuart. Stuart raised him on stories of his father’s bravery and good deeds. In an effort to live up to his late father’s legacy, the younger Flag enlisted in the armed forces at an early age, and wound up one of America’s best pilots.

Not long after, Flag was recruited by the no-nonsense Amanda Waller to co-lead her team, Task Force X. Flag was positioned as the team’s field leader, while Waller ran things behind the scenes. Flag went on several missions with Task Force X, and lost several members of the team on his watch. He himself appeared to die on a mission, but was instead being held in a secret enemy prison.

POWERS AND ABILITIES

An ordinary human with no metahuman powers, Flag is nevertheless a tactical expert and a formidable hand-to-hand fighter. Aside from being an incredible pilot, Flag is well versed in almost every single weapon that the military uses, and in a great number of fighting disciplines.

Well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of his team, Flag knows how to create a cohesive fighting unit, even if that unit is made up of some of the worst criminals on Earth.

 DR. JUNE MOONE/ ENCHANTRESS

Archeologist Dr. June Moone was possessed by an ancient and incredibly powerful mystical being known as the Enchantress. As the entity's power grew and became more of a threat of completely taking over her, June sought out help. That help came in the form of Rick Flag, who was assigned by Amanda Waller to protect her. The two grew close and eventually fell in love, just as Waller had hoped. It gave her leverage to control Flag.

Flag was led to believe that killing the Enchantress would also kill June. As much as he tried to avoid the inevitable, he finally had to make the difficult decision to destroy The Enchantress' heart. Fortunately June survived.

The two became engaged shortly after and were expecting a child, but then the apocalypse tore their future away....

ONE MORE SUICIDE MISSION (RISE OF HEROES BACKSTORY...)

The outbreak started eighteen years ago. In the early stages, the government was trying to combat the virus head on, sending out the US military. Colonel Rick Flag was sent to the front lines with his troops, Waller giving him her word that June and her unborn would be protected. Unfortunately it was a ploy and June was infected to see if the virus would also infect unborn children. When Flag returned, Waller gave him the devastating  news. June was infected. Her life and that of their unborn son were at risk, but there was one hope...

Waller informed Flag that the CDC was working on a cure. He was instructed to head to Belle Reve to enlist the survivors of Task Force X. He was sent with his troops to retrieve the prisoners, but only a few had survived the prison's abandonment. Harley Quinn and Deadshot were two of the only survivors.

The two agreed to the mission, but just like the tasks before, this one would prove dangerous. With the help of military, they were able to clear the zombies that swarmed inside the heavily secured fences of the CDC...

Once inside, it was discovered that it had all been a lie. There was no cure. Waller had sent them as her part of an agreement to the CDC for information on the research they had documented on the metas, in echange for information on the experimentation she was conducting on Flag's pregnant wife. Flag, Deadshot and Quinn were part of the payoff, destined to become test subjects.

The group managed to escape, but not before freeing what prisoners they could. Many military men and women were lost along the way, but the survivors made it back to Waller's compound to confront her. Flag discovered that June had turned and was left with the heartbreaking task of putting her down. Matters became worse when he found his son, who had been born with the infection raging through his innocent. Deadshot mercifully put an end to the infant when Flag became too disoriented to do so.

Waller's security opened fire on Flag when he attacked her, leaving him gravely wounded. Despite his injuries, he managed to shoot Waller in the head, putting an end to her sinister ways.

Flag was taken to Bruce's mall to recover, but Deadshot had still not buried the hatchet with the Bat, and went his seperate way. While at the mall, Flag joined Wayne's soldiers, working the fence to keep the place safe. He had considered making a life there, but Harley wanted to set out and look for the Joker. Finding out she was pregnant wouldn't even detour her.

Flag decided that she was in no condition to go alone, so he went with Harley on her quest, but his objective was not to find the Joker. It was to protect Harley and her unborn son.

Flag ended up having to deliver Harley's baby in the back of the humvee. He gave the child the nickname 'Jesse', because with a name like Jester, and the king and queen of Gotham as parents, the boy would need a bit of normalcy.

After the birth of Jesse, Flag convinced Harley that they needed to find a safe place for him. No more constant moving from place to place trying to find someone that probably did not want to be found. She reluctantly agreed, and they made an old military bunker their home.

Over the years, they recruited several Task force X members, including Ratcatcher 2, Bloodsport, TDK and King Shark.

As Jesse grew, Flag taught the boy everything he would need to know to survive this world. He taught him how to use weapons and every form of fighting that the military and other countries had taught him. Flag loved the kid like his own, and Jesse considered him his father, despite knowing the truth. Flag was the only stability the kid would know since Harley was too focused on finding The Joker.

Flag and his clan decided to do good in this world full of nightmares. They would go out looking for communities that may need their assistance. Over time, their group would become smaller after King Shark made a meal out of The Detachable Kid, then fled the scene, never to be seen again.

It took two years after the death of June, but Harley finally broke through Flag's walls, finally getting him to engage in a friends with benefits relationship that continues into present. She wanted the comforts of him without commitment, because someday she was going to find the Joker. Over the years, Flag had several girlfriends, but Harley was not ready to give up her 'play thing' and always found a way to run any of Flag's potential love interests off. She even went as far as to set one women's hair on fire.

Harley kept Flag at a distance, but unfortunately he fell in love with her. Fearing that his feelings would not be well received because she was drawn to villains, he kept those feelings to himself...
